Abolishing the Death Penalty in the United States
There are some advances in the United States to end the death penalty. In December, 2007, The United Nations voted in favor of created a moratorium on the Death Penalty that would be available. The American Bar Association also wants a moratorium to stop executions and improve the means of the Death Penalty. In December, 2007 New Jersey favored life in prison without parole to replace the Death Penalty. In April, 2006 the Supreme Court allowed itself to hear arguments regarding the Death Penalty and whether death by legal injection is Constitutional or not (does it violate "cruel and unusual punishment"?). Step preceding execution is determining whether with prisoner is innocent or guilty. the Innocence Project tests DNA to eliminate the innocent prisoners who are being wrongly convicted. The NCADP is solely devoted to abolishing the death penalty. They host annual conferences to spread this message. (Schumer)
